Attendance

Attendance

School attendance is mandatory for all pupils of compulsory school age and it is a priority to ensure that as many children as possible regularly attend school.

If a pupil’s attendance is between 90 and 95% then they are at risk of being ‘persistently absent’ from school. Attendance below 90% means that a pupil falls into the ‘persistently absent’ from school category.  Statistics show that persistent absentees are less likely to achieve their full potential.

From this term, in line with a directive from Wiltshire Council, we will be sending out letters to inform parents if their child falls into the persistently absent category. The aim of the letter is to make you aware of your child’s attendance and for there to be an improvement in their attendance.

Unauthorised Absences

If your child has more than 10 sessions of unauthorised absences in 6 months then it is a requirement of the school to inform the education officer who has the authority to issue a fine. Please be aware that there are two sessions in a day, a morning and afternoon session. Ten sessions is equivalent to 5 school days.

If you know in advance that your child will not be attending school e.g. medical appointment, then please let us know beforehand, preferably in writing to your child’s class teacher. Alternatively, via email or telephone call to the school office.

Punctuality

The school gate is opened between 8.45 and 8.50. Children can enter the class for start task from 8.50 am. School officially starts at 9.00 am. This means that your child should be in class and ready to learn for 9.00 am and not arriving at 9.00 am.

School finishes at 3.15pm. It is parents’ responsibility to be in the playground to collect their child/children by 3.15 pm.

Please ensure you are punctual at the start and end of the school day. Arriving late is disruptive to the class and disturbs learning. Parents arriving late at the end of the school day is often worrying for children. Please be respectful to everyone by arriving on time for the start and end of the school day.

If someone different is collecting your child, it is very important that you inform the class teacher / and or office as we cannot let children go home with someone different unless we have had prior notice.
