KS1
The Key Stage 1 curriculum includes Religious Education, the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science and the Foundation Subjects of Art and Design, Computing, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Music and Physical Education. We also teach PSHE.
In English, the children learn about speaking and listening, reading, writing, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary. The children are taught synthetic phonics through Letters and Sounds and use the actions from Jolly Phonics to reinforce this.
In Mathematics, the children first become confident using numbers to 20 and then move on to using numbers to 100. The children participate in the school’s 99 Club which encourages good mental arithmetic skills. All four operations are taught (+ - x ÷). Simple fractions ( 1/3, ½, ¼, ¾ ) and multiplication tables (2,5,10) are also covered. There is a strong focus on applying skills to problem solving. Calculators are not used in Key Stage 1.
